Know when you need to change your electrical house wiring

The older your house is, the more the chances there are that you’re dealing with some serious threat from your electrical house wiring. And it is of extreme importance for your safety to be able to pinpoint if there is such a problem in order to get know when your house wiring needs to change.

It is, however, not easy to spot such a problem due to the obvious reason, you can’t actually see your wiring.

Here are some initial external signs that can help you recognize a defect with the wiring.

1. Fuses and circuits tripping for no apparent reason

The circuit breakers are designed to trip when there is either an overloaded circuit, short circuit or ground fault. From your side, it may generally happen when you switch on too many appliances all at once. But if for no apparent reason your fuses are blowing, there is something fishy going on in the wiring.

2. Dimming or flickering of lights

It is not uncommon for lights to dim or start flickering for a bit, but if this happens regularly for no reason, it is time to get your cables and wires checked.

3. Getting electric shocks

We’re all taught the places where we might get a shock, but if you get a shock say on the floor, even a mild one, it means that the surface is electrified. And a part of your building electrified is a serious sign for getting it checked immediately.

4. Switch distorted or warm

Your switches are your only real access to your wiring. There are three major signs that either your wiring needs a checking or your switch does.

When the switch is warm: if your switch is getting warm, it is a sign that there is some problem with the wiring behind it.

Discoloured or burning: if you feel that your switches are discolored from the side, getting darker, or you smell something like plastic burning, it is a sure sign that your switch is burning and needs an immediate change. In such a situation, it is advised to turn this power outlet off immediately.
